Equity Bank is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join its Nairobi-based team. Reporting to the Head of Data Science, this role is central to the bank’s digital transformation, as it involves building scalable data platforms, optimizing data pipelines, and enabling impactful business insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor junior data engineers to ensure high performance.

• Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of data platforms.

• Build and optimize data pipelines for large and complex datasets.

• Develop real-time data processing frameworks and algorithms.

• Implement strong data governance and validation processes.

• Support business decisions by delivering analytics tools and insights.

• Drive automation of manual processes and optimize data delivery.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or related field.

• 8–10 years of experience in data engineering and big data solutions.

• Expertise with Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Postgres, Cassandra.

• Experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, EMR, Redshift).

• Strong knowledge of Python, Java, Scala, SQL, R, Matlab, SAS.

• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
