Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is hiring a Regional Finance and Grants Specialist to be based in Nairobi, Kenya. This senior-level, full-time role is ideal for finance professionals with strong experience in donor-funded programs, grants management, and financial compliance.
About the Role
The Regional Finance and Grants Specialist will provide strategic financial oversight and grants management support across HFHI programs. The role combines financial management, donor compliance, partner capacity building, and strategic advisory, ensuring financial integrity and effective grant utilization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Management & Compliance (25%)

Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to maintain fiscal health

Monitor expenditure against budgets and recommend corrective actions

Ensure compliance with GAAP, HFHI policies, donor regulations, and internal controls

Develop and implement financial risk mitigation strategies

Review invoices, procurement requests, and travel claims for accuracy and compliance

Support internal and external audits through documentation and follow-up
Grants & Contract Administration (25%)

Support proposal development through compliance guidance and cost reviews
-
Review, negotiate, and manage donor agreements and budget revisions
-
Oversee the full subaward lifecycle from pre-award to close-out

Ensure timely donor reporting and approval of grant modifications

Maintain complete, audit-ready grant and contract documentation
Capacity Building & Partner Support (25%)

Train subrecipients on donor requirements and HFHI financial policies
-
Strengthen internal staff capacity in grants and compliance management
-
Standardize grant procedures and promote best practices
-
Mentor staff to improve accountability and budget ownership
Strategic Financial Advisory & Analysis (15%)

Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis

Identify financial risks and opportunities through trend analysis

Recommend policy and process improvements

Support strategic planning by aligning finance with program objectives
Stakeholder Engagement (10%)

Act as liaison between HFHI, donors, auditors, and partners

Communicate grant expectations and compliance updates

Foster collaboration across finance, programs, and operations teams
Minimum Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field

At least 8 years’ experience in finance, grants, or donor-funded programs

Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control systems

Experience working with ERP systems (Workday preferred)

Proven experience managing UN-Habitat grants
-
Knowledge of Adaptation Fund policies and reporting requirements

Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
