Zeraki, one of Kenya’s leading ed-tech innovators, is expanding its engineering team and is now looking for a Mid-Level Frontend Engineer to join their Nairobi office. This role is ideal for a developer who enjoys crafting smooth, scalable, and user-centric digital experiences while working in a fast-paced environment.
What the Role Involves
The engineer will be responsible for building and improving high-performance backend services using modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot. You’ll take ownership of major feature components, contribute to system architecture, and refine existing services to enhance speed, stability, and scalability.
Beyond building systems, the role also involves shaping Zeraki’s engineering standards. You’ll participate in technical discussions, contribute to documentation, and start carving out a niche in areas like distributed systems, integrations, or messaging.
Production Support & Quality Control
A big part of the job involves keeping systems reliable and running smoothly. This includes:

What Zeraki is Looking For
To qualify, candidates should have:

3–5 years’ hands-on Java backend development experience

Strong skills in Spring Boot and microservices architectures

Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases

Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, Docker or Kubernetes

Excellent debugging and performance optimization abilities
