Microsoft is seeking a highly skilled Government Affairs Director in Nairobi. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to shape public policy, influence government engagement, and drive Microsoft’s agenda across Africa.

Role Overview
The Government Affairs Director will lead Microsoft’s policy strategy, oversee government engagement, and manage complex social, political, legal, and technical issues. You will work closely with senior internal stakeholders to advance Microsoft’s priorities while mitigating risks and driving impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Program Management

  • Lead advocacy and policy initiatives, managing Microsoft’s engagement on priority issues.

  • Shape Microsoft’s policy agenda in Africa and develop impactful solutions.

  • Manage project-related government affairs work, including stakeholder engagement and political communications.

  • Identify opportunities for Microsoft technology to empower government leaders.

Intelligence & Analysis

  • Maintain an intelligence network and analyze internal and external data.

  • Stay updated on technology policy trends and their intersection with Microsoft’s business.

External Relationships & Coalition-Building

  • Build partnerships with coalitions, public sector organizations, and industry thought leaders.

  • Influence regulatory and legislative outcomes.

  • Manage consultants, partners, and allies for business and legislative initiatives.

Internal Collaboration & Alignment

  • Advocate policy priorities within Microsoft and facilitate cross-group coordination.

  • Advise senior executives on political landscapes and project priorities.

  • Support executive visits and events in collaboration with the CELA team.

Communication & Representation

  • Drive communication frameworks to align policy with Microsoft goals.

  • Represent Microsoft in key forums and external events.

  • Explain complex technical and policy concepts to policymakers and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field (or Bachelor’s with significant experience).

  • Extensive experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, or government.

  • Proven ability to develop and manage strategic relationships and influence public policy priorities.
