The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is seeking a Lead Internal Auditor to join its Nairobi team. This vital position supports the Head of Internal Audit in strengthening transparency, accountability, and ethical governance within one of the world’s most respected humanitarian organizations.
As a Lead Internal Auditor, you will play a key role in evaluating the ICRC’s governance, risk management, and control processes across global operations. You’ll ensure that financial and operational systems meet international standards, protect resources, and align with humanitarian goals.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct thorough audit engagements across ICRC delegations and departments as per the annual audit plan.

Evaluate governance systems, risk management frameworks, and compliance with internal and external policies.

Ensure the effective and ethical use of resources to enhance operational efficiency.

Draft comprehensive audit reports and present actionable recommendations.

Contribute to audit strategy, innovation, and process improvement within the department.

Lead small audit teams (up to three people) in complex operational environments.

Utilize data analytics to enhance audit effectiveness and automate reporting.

Undertake field missions (20–30% travel) for on-site audits in delegations.
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:

A university degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.

12–15 years of proven experience in internal or external audit.

Professional certifications such as CIA, CRMA, or CISA are a major advantage.

Strong understanding of risk management, digital transformation, and cybersecurity.

Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in French, Arabic, or Spanish is a plus.

Prior experience in NGOs or international humanitarian organizations is highly desirable.
