From negotiating complex partnership agreements with Vodafone, Vodacom, and other regional markets to managing intellectual property and reviewing high-impact regulatory changes, the individual in this role will play an essential part in sustaining M-Pesa’s innovation and market leadership.
Key Responsibilities You’ll Lead
The role involves comprehensive oversight of legal and regulatory matters, including:

Drafting and negotiating high-level commercial and partnership agreements

Managing disputes and litigation arising from M-Pesa Africa’s commercial relationships

Providing advisory support on legal, compliance, IP, and legislative matters

Monitoring regulatory trends across African markets and advising on policy changes

Supporting mobile financial services regulatory and tax initiatives

Representing M-Pesa Africa at regional and global policy events

Ensuring compliance audits and regulatory governance across markets

Who Is the Ideal Candidate?
To take on this position, Safaricom is looking for someone with:

A degree in Law from a reputable commonwealth university

A Diploma from Kenya School of Law

At least 10 years’ experience in regulatory affairs within financial services

Strong experience working across African regulatory environments

Additional training in areas such as AML, IP, negotiation, arbitration, or legislative drafting

Proven ability to lead teams and influence high-level policy
