Code for Africa (CfA), one of the continent’s largest civic technology and open data networks, is looking for an experienced Communities Programme Manager to join its fully distributed team. This position is ideal for a seasoned leader who thrives in multicultural environments and has a passion for building strong, engaged communities.
The successful candidate will collaborate with a cross-border team of coordinators, designers, journalists, and innovators across 22 African countries. It’s a role that blends strategy, leadership, partnership development, and hands-on programme execution.
What You Will Be Doing
✔ Oversee Daily Operations of Community Initiatives
You’ll manage all community-driven activities—both on-ground and virtual—including workshops, meetups, conferences, and forums.
✔ Develop and Scale Community Engagement Programs
Your leadership will guide new and ongoing initiatives tailored to CfA’s product and growth strategies.
✔ Lead and Support a Distributed Team
You will supervise community coordinators located across Africa, ensuring seamless execution of projects and consistent communication within their networks.
✔ Drive Stakeholder Engagement
You’ll manage relationships with partner communities and regularly engage audiences through multiple communication channels.
✔ Project Implementation & Quality Control
You will oversee partner projects from planning to execution, ensuring delivery meets CfA’s quality expectations, budgets, and timelines.
✔ Identify and Build Strategic Partnerships
You’ll explore new opportunities with media houses, NGOs, tech firms, and influencers to strengthen CfA’s community footprint.
✔ Track Impact and Tell Community Success Stories
By gathering insights and success stories from ongoing initiatives, you will help the organisation refine its strategies and expand its reach.
✔ Manage Content Publishing with Media Partners
In collaboration with coordinators, you’ll facilitate the syndication and publication of CfA content across partner networks.
What CfA Is Looking For
To thrive in this role, candidates must have:

7+ years in programme/project management

At least 3 years managing community engagement initiatives

Experience working with NGOs, civic tech organisations, media networks, or startups

Proven ability to lead multicultural remote teams
